Stats and other happenings...

Jack's pediatrician visit went great and he is healthy and on his way to trying new foods! First up was peas. I thought nothing could top oatmeal, but alas, he loves peas! I am making his baby food using my Beaba that my mom and grandmother gave to me as a shower gift and I love it! It is easy and fun to make his food and I only have to wash one thing- the Beaba. I also started making his oatmeal and that is a little more time consuming, but still fun (and cheaper!). Next up are green beans, avocados and sweet potatoes. So many new foods to try!

We had a fun visit from Jon's mom (Grammy) a week ago. We took her to lots of Austin faves like Rudy's and Chuy's. We also went to Ikea and the outlet mall in Round Rock!

Jack has become very attached to this little stuffed Tigger that I gave Jon back in high school. I put it up in Jack's room as a fun decoration on the bookshelves and then we played with it a few times and now he's hooked. He loves it and it goes everywhere with us. If he goes to bed with it only near him, he ALWAYS reaches out his arm to touch it or pull it towards him. It's very sweet and I am glad he has a comfort item.

His weight at the pediatrician's was 16.9 (He was 15.12 in February- I can't remember if I published that), which is the 50th percentile. His weight gain has slowed down a lot, but that's normal when the baby becomes more active- and this kid is active. His length was 27.5, so he is pretty long- 80th percentile.

He loves to play and fly through the air (well, we are still holding onto him, so it's not really flying). He also loves watching Mommy and Daddy be really silly and sing lots of silly songs. I am pretty sure I make up a song a day about something, be it peas or his double chin. He is rolling all over now- both ways! Now there is no limit to the weird positions we find him in when he wakes up. He's still not quite sitting up on his own, but getting closer everyday.

We have been having great weather here in Austin, so I am pulling out his summer clothes and getting excited to start playing outside and getting a baby pool!

Seriously- this IS one of the first naptimes since the last post...

Napping has not been Jack's best quality lately, but we are getting there and the naps are improving daily. He is struggling with getting out of his favorite sleep position and being unable to put himself back into it. When we lay him down for a nap he is tired, but usually decides he needs to play a bit more, eat his feet and babble before actually going to sleep. This is all very fun to watch (we broke down and got a video monitor to figure out what was happening with the naps and to deal with the crying a little better), but it does tend to cause a little less sleep on his part. Ah, yes, the video monitor. All I have to say is- I never imagined how busy that boy was in his crib. I feel like I missed half his life before, not really, but the monitor is very fun to watch! Here is a brief update on his latest happenings. We have a pediatrician appointment Thursday, so I will post his latest stats then!
  • Laughing- love it! If Jon or I ever find something that makes him laugh, we usually wear it outright away.
  • Sitting up- he can sit up for about 10 seconds on his own and then topples over :)
  • We are still only eating rice cereal for now, but gearing up to move on to bigger and better things!! I am getting excited to use my Beaba baby food maker!
  • We are loving that Jack can be easily distracted now- great for when he is fussy and we are out and about, not so great when you are carrying him and he spies something he wants though because he will jump out of our arms :)
  • He has rolled from his back to his stomach twice, so we are getting close. We often find him on the opposite end of the crib from where we left him these days. He works very hard to get that way- I know because I watch him in the monitor!
In other exciting news, Jack and I are going to the movies on Tuesday with some other moms and babies from church! A movie theater in town allows babies at the first showing of any movie on Tuesdays. They keep the lights low and turn down the volume. I am so excited! I haven't seen a movie since the beginning of September. I think we are going to "Alice", not sure, don't really care either- I am just excited to go! This is the first official meeting of our new weekly playgroup :)

An eco-friendly note: We are officially doing only cloth diapers during the day now (as long as Mommy keeps up with the wash, which she does :) ) and really loving it! We are using Swaddlebees and FuzziBunz. I do like the fit of the FuzziBunz a little better and they are a little softer. We have only bought one pack of diapers in a month and a half, so it has been good for the economy and the pocketbook (well, the cloth diapers should pay for themselves in approx. four months- yes, I did the math before purchasing). I thought we may not put him in them to wear out and about, but we do and it is no problem at all! That is all for now! I will post big man's weight on Thursday!
